The robots are coming, and we need your help!

deep space

This year's challenge is to use robots to solve problems in deep space.

Come be a part of Greenville’s biggest robotics tournament ever!

Greenville is expecting a friendly invasion March 22 and 23 when thousands of robotics students and their families and fans will descend on Greenville High School for a huge competition.

We need volunteers to help with everything from crowd control to keeping score and judging. Volunteers will receive T-shirts, breakfast and lunch, and they may sign up for half-day or full-day shifts.

“This will be the most packed the GHS gym has ever been in its existence,” Robotics Adrienne Emerson. “We will have 42 teams competing, each with 30-50 students. You add all the team members and their families together, and we’re estimating 3,000 to 5,000 visitors to Greenville that weekend.”

An online signup form is available through FIRST, the organization behind the tournament. There are instructions on the website, and FIRST will pay for the required protection background screening.

Since Greenville High School is hosting the event, the Robowranglers will be helping with the tournament, rather than competing.

“Hosting will be a full-time job in itself,” Emerson said.

This year’s theme is Destination: Deep Space. The event is free and open to spectators. There will be competitions from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.Friday and Saturday (March 22 and 23) with the finals on Saturday afternoon.
