Mark your calendar for Feb. 28 to attend the Map to College meeting @ GHS
Juniors, seniors and their parents are invited to map out their journey to college at a meeting and workshop at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Greenville High School cafeteria.
2016 GHS graduate Jada Hilburn, who is pursuing a degree in education at Texas A&M University-Commerce, will greet the crowd and tell them about her experience making the transition to college.
Texas A&M Commerce admissions officials will describe the best ways to navigate the application and other processes. Next, there will be a workshop in the library where students and parents can finish applications with assistance from college admissions officials and Spanish-language translators. Although the admission officials are from A&M Commerce, the information is relevant to all colleges and universities. Specific topics to be addressed:
- Tips for having a successful freshman year
- Completing the FAFSA and other financial aid applications
- Applying for scholarships
- Campus housing
- Required meningitis vaccination – information on where to get vaccinated for free
- Transcripts
That same evening, there will be a session for incoming freshmen (current eighth-graders) and their parents at 7 p.m. in the auditorium where they will learn how to plan their academic careers from high school to college.
