It's been a busy year for Greenville FFA!

2019 has already been a big year for the Greenville FFA!

We started the year at the legendary Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show held in Fort Worth. The ag mechanics kids showed their beautiful dining room table and received a blue ribbon and placed second in their class. Next, we took five heifers and a steer to exhibit in the livestock show where all of our students did an outstanding job. One highlight was our class winning Shorthorn heifer that was then selected as division champion. Our members then had the opportunity to exhibit their leadership skills by conducting barn tours at the show. Twenty of our members spent a very long day leading groups of Fort Worth area elementary students around the stock show and teaching them about the importance of Agriculture.

Next, we hit the San Angelo Livestock Show and Rodeo. Our Ag mechanics group took five projects that all received blue ribbons and two placed second in their class. We also had two of our heifer exhibitors attend the show. One placed fifth in class and the other was first in her class, chosen as Champion in her division, and then selected as Reserve Breed Champion. It is safe to say that Greenville FFA left their mark in San Angelo.

The next stop on our busy journey was the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo. We have already exhibited breeding sheep and breeding heifers and all of our showman continued the standard of showing great and placing well. As I write this, we have commercial steers and market barrows at the show waiting their turn to excel in the ring. This weekend, we will be sending another five projects and a marketing team to the Junior Ag Mechanics show in San Antonio and we expect nothing but the best from them, as well.

We will continue the major show project exhibition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and The Star of Texas in Austin. The big finally of our show season will be the Hunt County Fair where we will have numerous members showing their projects. Our kids are working tirelessly with their projects and we have high hopes for the success we will see and the lessons we will learn as the season progresses.

While not at stock shows, our members have been busy doing community service, preparing for judging contests, applying for scholarships, working on record books, and planning for our annual First Responders Luncheon. Finally, we cannot forget the incredible projects that are being built for our Annual FFA Booster Club Auction where we raise the money to help supplement our program and give back to the members of this organization. The auction is made up of ALL student-made projects and we serve a delicious barbeque dinner. This year’s auction will be held on March 30th in the Greenville High School Cafeteria.

We, the ag teachers of the Greenville FFA, are so incredibly proud of our students and the difference they are making in this community and the example they are setting for future members. Our goal is to instill a heart for service, the skills to lead, and a desire to be their best in all of the students who come through this organization.
