Congratulations to Jackie Harrison, our May Hero of Hope!

Ms. Harrison, an instructional & nurse aide at New Horizons / GAEP, is known for inspiring and supporting students, teachers, families, and anyone who crosses her path.

"She takes time with her students and understands the things we tell her," student Jordan Preston wrote in her nomination. "She's a friend and an educator, and a fantastic one at that."

New Horizons / GAEP receptionist Christa Jones also nominated Ms. Harrison as a Hero of Hope, writing that "Jackie is THE most important person on the New Horizons / GAEP campus. When she is absent, it is noticed. Plus she's fun to be around! She loves the kids!!!!"

Seven people nominated Harrison, who was surrounded by cheering students and colleagues when the surprise announcement was made.

She will be honored at the next school board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. She will also receive $100, thanks to Lone Star Credit Union, the official underwriter of Greenville ISD's Hero of Hope program. She received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Adkisson's Florist.

Every month (September– May), one districtwide Hero of Hope is selected and honored at the School Board meeting. Whether you are a student, parent, employee or community member, please take the time to nominate your Hero of Hope by filling out a form located in every Greenville ISD campus and building. You may also email nominations to Communications@greenvilleisd.com.

"One of the greatest opportunities we have as educators is to change the life of a child," Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins said. "Since that is the most important focus of our work, this is one of the highest honors we can give to an employee."
