The Hero of Hope nomination box was recently overflowing with notes from 23 students and teachers for Casey Chaney, the Chancellor of the Early College High School.

“She has truly motivated me and my entire class and has poured her entire career and soul into us,” writes GHS sophomore Jenny Gonzalez. “I had never really believed in myself until her. I would do anything for her, just like she has for me!”

In the stack of nominations, a portrait emerges of Chaney as a teacher who walks beside her students, both challenging them and encouraging them.

“Casey works tirelessly and passionately to help our students reach their potential,” writes Secondary English Language Arts and Social Instructional Strategist Jennifer Martin. “She also makes sure that each child knows that they are genuinely loved. She makes school their favorite place to grow.”

Many of the students referred to her as their “second mom” and their “school mom.”

“She is the most supportive woman I know,” writes sophomore Lizzi Doty. “She is like a mom. I love her and wouldn’t be where I am without her.”

Chaney will be honored at the next school board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.  She will also receive $100, thanks to Lone Star Credit Union, the official underwriter of Greenville ISD's Hero of Hope program. She received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Adkisson's Florist.

Every month (September– May), one districtwide Hero of Hope is selected and honored at the School Board meeting. Whether you are a student, parent, employee or community member, please take the time to nominate your Hero of Hope by filling out a form located in every Greenville ISD campus and building. You may also email nominations to Communications@greenvilleisd.com.

"One of the greatest opportunities we have as educators is to change the life of a child," Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins said. "Since that is the most important focus of our work, this is one of the highest honors we can give to an employee."
