Business leaders share expertise & resources with GHS's CTE teachers & students

It didn't take long for the partnership to take off when Greenville business leaders started talking with teachers at Greenville High School this week.

Electronics teacher Joel Pitts was describing his students' latest project -- building a composite solar car. Before he was done talking, Solvay Human Resources Manager Paula Duncan had offered her company's excess supplies.

"Oh, we've got lots of materials you can use," Solvay Human Resources Manager Paula Duncan piped up. "I'm also going to get you in touch with our engineers."

A milewide smile broke across Pitts' face, and he and Duncan exchanged business cards and arrangements to be in touch.

The CTE Advisory Committee, which is chaired by Duncan, is made up of business leaders ranging from Innovation First International to Hunt Regional Healthcare and several manufacturing companies. The partnership is a natural one: they are needing skilled employees, and GISD is preparing students for careers.

The committee members also visited with Culinary Arts Teacher Chef Lucas Kiowski and were treated to a delicious lunch prepared by his students.
