Great things are happening in Greenville ISD and across the State of Texas in public education!

Seeing is believing, and Tuesday morning, there was no denying the great things that are happening in Greenville ISD and across the State of Texas in public education!

Tuesday's State of the District program opened with a gracious show of hospitality and a display of talent from GHS students.

  • GHS culinary arts students arrived at school at 4 a.m. to cook a scrumptious breakfast for guests, then they transported the meal to the Civic Center and served it with a smile. Now that's hospitality!
  • Flaming Flashes greeted guests with smiles and warm words of welcome on a chilly, wet morning.
  • GHS junior Clay Gibson delivered a touching invocation in which he prayed for our city's leaders, our friends at Texas A&M-Commerce and all those affected by the tragedy that occurred over the weekend.
  • GHS encore singers sang a beautiful selection, beginning with the National Anthem, followed by And So It Goes, and closing with Lord Bless You & Keep You
  • The NJROTC Color Guard presented the Texas and U.S. colors
  • GHS seniors Jackson Woodruff & Nantzi Huffman welcomed guests and thanked them for their amazing support for all GISD students. In particular, they mentioned booster club supporters and businesses who give students real-world experiences by mentoring them.
  • Artwork from students at all grade levels was on display for the guests to enjoy.

GISD Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins gave a State of the District Report in which he shared the good news about the district's strong academic performances, fiscal health, and innovative initiatives. Friends of Texas Public Schools Founder Scott Milder told the crowd about how Texas outperforms most states in the country, and he backed up his claims with data. Stay tuned - we'll be sharing those facts in more posts and stories to come.

Thank you, Greenville Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Byron Taylor, Chamber ambassadors, board members, Greenville Board of Development members, Greenville ISD School Board members, Greenville and area city leaders, and the many other GISD supporters who turned out to learn more about what makes us all GISD Proud!
