Guess who’s naming that robot?

Robowranglers' name for medical device to be announced Tuesday

Who you gonna call to name a robot?

Robowranglers!

That’s exactly who Hunt Regional Healthcare called when they were looking for someone to name their new surgical device.

The new name will be announced tomorrow morning at Business Before Hours. Here are the details:

  • What: Greenville Chamber of Commerce Business Before Hours
  • When: 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3
  • Where: Hunt Regional Healthcare, 4215 Joe Ramsey Blvd.
  • Announcements: The Operating Room staff voted on their favorite from the three top names supplied by the Robowranglers, and the name will be unveiled during Tuesday’s event. Also, Hunt Regional Healthcare is opening Code Brew, a brand new coffee shop at the entrance of their facility serving Starbucks coffee!

Several weeks ago, representatives from the hospital reached out to the Robowranglers. The high school team gathered together, thrilled to have the opportunity and they tossed around potential names. After careful consideration, the team has come up with several unique names that do not disappoint.

The device is a Stryker’s Mako robotic-arm, which is used in knee surgery.

Richard Carter, CEO of Hunt Regional Healthcare, said the addition to the hospital’s orthopedic services comes at a time when knee replacements are expected to increase 673 percent during the next 10 years, while nearly one-third of patients are dissatisfied with conventional surgery.

“We are proud to be among the first hospitals to offer this service in our area, combining the expertise of our surgeons with the accuracy of the robotic-arm technology,” said Carter.

Several Robowranglers representatives will join Carter at tomorrow’s event, and they even sent over a team T-shirt for the latest robot in town.
