The Greenville ISD Board of Trustees has been selected as one of five finalists statewide for the prestigious H-E-B Outstanding School Board Award.

“This is a tremendous honor for our school board and for our district,” GISD School Board President John Kelso said. “It speaks to GISD’s commitment to building a culture of excellence for our students and our community.”

A statewide panel of judges scores school boards based on:

  • Designing and communicating a bold vision
  • Identifying, assessing and prioritizing community needs
  • Addressing and working through challenges
  • Using creative methods for community engagement

The next step for the five finalist districts will be in-person visits from judges, who will interview trustees, district leaders and community members.

Here are the 2020 winners:

  • Greenville ISD
  • Elgin ISD
  • Mission CISD
  • Community ISD
  • Canyon ISD

H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. It has become the largest monetary program for educators in the state, spotlighting best practices and celebrating the passion and creativity of Texas educators.
