GISD Submits Redistricting Plan

Greenville ISD elects all of its seven trustees from single-member trustee election districts. Elections are held on the second Saturday of May each year in the following sequence:

Districts 5 and 7 are up for election in May of 2012

Districts 1 and 6 are up for election in May of 2013

Districts 2, 3 and 4 are up for election in May of 2014

The current trustees will complete the remainder of their current terms and the boundaries of the new single-member districts will be phased in as the respective terms come up for election.

The district utilized a Redistricting Advisory Committee to help compose a redistricting recommendation for the Department of Justice. The Committee met on September 13th with the District’s legal counsel to receive the draft plan which they unanimously recommended to the Board of Trustees.

On October 18, 2011, the District’s Board of Trustees adopted the Committee’s recommended changes to its single-member district boundaries.

On December 22, 2011, the redistricting plan was submitted to the Department of Justice for review and approval.

A copy of the redistricting submission may be viewed here or is available to view at the district’s central office at 3504 King Street.
