AFA presents check to Teacher of the Year Adrienne Emerson

Emerson

GISD Director of Robotics Adrienne Emerson received a wonderful surprise visit from our friends with the Air Force Association yesterday.  They presented Emerson with $1000 for being named the AFA TEXAS Teacher of the Year for 2020.

Emerson was only 1 of 18 nominated nationwide, and she was included in a Teacher of the Year discussion panel about STEM education during the annual AFA conference held virtually this past summer!

Vance Clarke with the local AFA Chapter 416 had this to say:

“AFA Chapter 416 is so pleased to see a STEM teacher we support be recognized in such a prestigious way. The work she has and will do will change the hearts and minds of students she encounters.  This supports our nation and our Air Force by providing a larger talent pool of highly qualified people to potentially step into uniform.  But the big impact is right here at home, in Greenville and our surrounding area.  She builds experience and character, and our community will feel those results.  We are so excited and look forward to her future accomplishments!”

GISD is blessed to have the support from the local AFA Chapter 416 who has helped fund many STEM related projects from robotics to solar car.  Thank you, AFA, for your continued support of our students, staff, and district!
