You know the saying, “Kids say the darndest things?”

It’s the truth! Just ask L3Harris engineers and managers, who were fielding the following questions from second-graders this week:

“How were the stars made?”

“Why are rocket ships called rocket ships?”

And, perhaps the toughest question of all: “How do astronauts go to the bathroom in space?”

Ten L3Harris leaders shared lively conversations via Zoom with STEM @ Crockett second-graders March 3 as part of a nationwide Read Across America initiative. They also read the books Astro Girl and Rocket Says Clean Up, and every child is receiving copies of the books.

“Even though COVID makes it more challenging, it’s important for our students to make connections with our community and to broaden their horizons about possible careers for their futures,” STEM @ Crockett Principal Sebastian Bozas said. “The timing is perfect because we’re studying space right now, and we just landed a rover on Mars. Students are seeing why science matters.”

Thanks to our L3Harris partners for taking the time to share your real-life experiences with our students!
