GEEF gives grant in honor of Dr. Mary Jane Vance

group

The Greenville Educational Enrichment Foundation (GEEF) made a very special presentation yesterday in honor of the late Dr. Mary Jane Vance.  GEEF presented Flaming Flash Director Lori L. Butler with a $5,000 grant. Dr. Vance was a former director for the Flaming Flashes during the mid to late '60s.

“This is going to be a Mary Jane dream come true,” Butler said. “She and I had talked about the old satin jackets they used to wear, and Mary Jane shared with me that she would love if we went back to that. This grant will allow me to order 75 of these jackets, and when it’s cold the girls will be able to wear the jackets.”

"This is amazing, and it will be something that when I’m gone will still be in that closet and those girls will wear from here on out,” she said.

Dr. Vance’s family was in attendance for the presentation, and Missy Vance Spears, daughter of Dr. Mary Jane Vance, shared the family’s appreciation:

“This is a tremendous honor what the foundation is doing for our family and in our mother’s name,” Spears said. “She would have been here smiling so big, and I’m sure she is smiling down right now. Thank you so much!”

Thank you, GEEF for your continued support of all our GISD students and staff!
