Greenville High School’s Men’s and Women’s Powerlifting Teams competed on Wednesday, March 3 and Thursday, March 4 in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s Region III Division 1 Championships.

The Lady Lions qualified four lifters for regional competition where all four received a medal and two lifters qualified for the state powerlifting meet. The Lady Lions finished 5th in the team standings after scoring 17 points.

The Lions qualified nine lifters for the regional meet where all nine received a medal and six qualified for state competition. The Lions finished second overall in the team standings after scoring 41 points. Senior Bryan Rodriguez claimed three superlative awards on the light platform for outstanding squat, outstanding bench, and outstanding total. Senior Giancarlos Belteton also claimed a superlative award on the heavy platform for outstanding total.

“We competed well over the last two days. It’s a huge accomplishment for every lifter that qualified for the regional meet to come home with a medal and to qualify eight lifters for the state meet,” said George Sellers, head powerlifting coach.

The THSWPA state meet will be held March 17-20 at the American Bank Center Arena in Corpus Christi.

The THSPA state meet will be held March 26-27 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
