Melissa Yost named L.P. Waters Principal

June 10, 2021 Melissa Yost named L.P. Waters Principal

Melissa Yost has been named the principal of L.P. Waters and the Director of Hunt County Head Start.

Mrs. Yost has been with Greenville ISD since 2017. In her first year in the district, Mrs. Yost was a 1st-grade teacher at Lamar Elementary. The last three years she was an assistant principal at Carver Elementary. Prior to coming to GISD, Mrs. Yost was an elementary teacher with Frisco ISD.

“I am very excited about working with our littlest Lions at L.P. Waters,” Yost said. “I’ve always made connections with younger school children and I know my background in early education sets me up for success. My top priority is to help children fall in love with school.”

GISD Chief of School Leadership Herbert O’Neil said Mrs. Yost has a heart for our students and an even bigger heart for our littlest lions!

“She has proven herself to be a phenomenal educator. Her unique experiences leading students and staff in the early grades make her a great fit,” O’Neil said. “She loves the Greenville community and we are thrilled to have her lead L.P. Waters Early Childhood Center.”

Mrs. Yost is succeeding Dr. Michelle Baird, who will begin a new role as Director of STEM Services in July.

Mrs. Yost began her career in education as a school secretary. During that time, she says her calling as an educational administrator came in to view. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2008 from Dallas Baptist University while also receiving her teaching certificate. In 2017, she received her master’s in educational administration from Lamar University.

She is married to Chris, who is the pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church. They have three children all of whom have attended or currently attend GISD. She is active with her church, serving on missions and helping with youth groups. Hiking, going to the beach and being on the water are some of her favorite activities to do with her family in her free time.
