Putting the “I” in GISD pride

September 15, 2021

To drive home that message that every one of us is the “I’ in GISD, campuses decorated giant letters that provide a great photo op for staff, students and visitors.

The purpose of the Team GISD letters was to help every person in GISD have a daily, visible reminder that they are an integral part of the overall vision and success of the district. Every single one of us plays an important role in Team GISD!

Campus staff worked together to paint and decorate their letters as a teambuilding activity during back-to-school in-service. To add a little extra fun to the project, there was a competition between campuses for best letters.

Thank you to GEEF for accomplishing the impossible task of voting on the winners. First place received $100, second place $75, and 3rd place $50 in school supplies from Latson’s.

Not only do the letters provide a fun backdrop for photo opportunities, they will also be used throughout the school year to spotlight campus events, highlight student successes, and celebrate GISD’s monthly social-emotional learning themes.

And the winners are …

#1: New Horizons High School

 NHHS GSD Letters

NHHS Letters Quote

“The thing that sets New Horizons’ letters apart is the inspirational sayings,” said Continuing Education Coordinator Rebekah Russler, who worked with Greenville Educational Enrichment Foundation leaders during the selection process. “There’s even one from Jackie Harrison, who is known for her gift of encouragement. Her quote is ‘You can and you will!” The letters exemplify the can-do attitude that permeates the culture of the campus.”

#2 Greenville High School

 GHS GSD Letters

“What’s amazing about Greenville High School’s sign is that every faculty member painted and signed each individual brick,” Russler said. “The message is strong: it takes every one of us to make this high school the great place of learning that it is for our students.”

#3 Travis/Sixth Grade Center

 T6 GSD Letters

“The T6 letters are incredibly creative, glittery and fun,” Russler said. “They are simply irresistible, and the T6 spirit is fabulous, too!”
