GISD receives top financial ratings & audit report

The Greenville ISD Board of Trustees received several financial reports reflecting high marks for the district's financial management practices during recent meetings.

The annual financial report was given by the auditing firm Rutherford & Taylor, which conducted the annual audit of the 2020-21 school year budget and expenditures. The auditors gave GISD the highest possible marks on the audit.

In addition to the positive audit report, GISD was given an "A" rating by the state's school financial accountability rating system, known as the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The rating system is designed to ensure that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices.

There were several other indicators that reflect excellent financial practices, as reported by SAMCO Capital during a recent presentation to the board: Greenville ISD has earned the following top ratings and citations:
  • AAA bond rating (based on the Permanent School Fund Guarantee)
  • Aa3 rating from Moody's Investors Service
  • Refinancing of bonds, saving taxpayers more than $20 million in payments
"We appreciate the administration and people in the Finance Department for budgeting and putting us in the good financial position we are in today," GISD School Board President Trena Stafford said.
