GISD names new police chief

GISD has named Oscar Serrato as the new Greenville ISD Chief of Police.

Prior to joining GISD, Chief Serrato served as an officer for the Terrell ISD Police Department for five years. Serrato worked as a Deputy Sheriff with Tarrant County, and he also served as an officer with the City of Wilmer Police Department.

"Chief Serrato brings years of experience in several sectors, serving in law enforcement roles in county, municipal and school district departments," GISD Superintendent Sharon Boothe said. "He understands the importance of building a safe and secure learning environment for our community, and he is committed to partnering with other law enforcement entities in order to be both proactive and prepared."

Serrato says he is looking forward to beginning his new role in GISD and building a Police Department that will provide an officer on every campus.

“I take great pride in my ability to build positive and trustworthy relationships with students,” Serrato said. “I strive to help them know that every day they have an opportunity to make choices which will help them get to where they want to be.”

In his 14 years in the law enforcement field, Chief Serrato has worked in several areas including as a field training officer, background investigator and gang unit officer among other specialized units.

“It is an honor to be named Chief of Police for the Greenville ISD Police Department,” Serrato shared. “I look forward to joining an incredible leadership team and continuing my service to the students and staff of GISD as I have continuously done wherever I have been in my law enforcement career.”
