Free breakfast and lunch for all GISD students continues through September 2022

Free breakfast and lunch for all GISD students will continue through September.

Last fall, Congress authorized spending that allowed schools to serve free meals for all students. However, that funding will not be continued during the 2022-23 school year. As a result, GISD will return to charging for school meals and offering free and reduced-price meals at the following campuses based on student eligibility starting Oct. 1:

  • Bowie Elementary
  • Lamar Elementary
  • Greenville Middle School
  • Greenville High School

Students at all other GISD campuses will continue to have free meals because those campuses qualify for funding through the Community Eligibility Provision.

All families are encouraged to fill out the income qualification multi-use application to apply for free or reduced-priced meals. You can find this information on the website. Parents also have the option to fill out the application during their Skyward student registration process which is the desired form of filling out the application. You only need to fill out an application once.

Meal prices are expected to increase slightly starting Oct. 1 and will be announced following the Aug. 16 School Board meeting.
