L3Harris partners with GISD to provide clear backpacks for students

L3Harris is once again upLIFTing our district through their community service initiative called L3Harris Investing for Tomorrow, also known as LIFT. Not only did they provide a $2,500 grant to help purchase clear backpacks for students in need, several L3Harris employees volunteered to sort and deliver the backpacks to each Greenville ISD campus.

When Parent Involvement Facilitator Whitney Threatt began reaching out to local businesses seeking sponsors for clear backpacks for our students, L3Harris immediately jumped on the opportunity to help.

“When asked if we could help with the backpack project, our immediate response was 'Yes!' " said Kelley Jacobs, an executive assistant in the engineering department at L3Harris. “Many of us either went through GISD ourselves or have children who went from kindergarten through high school in GISD.  Not only is it an honor to help the district, but also a privilege to be a little piece of the big picture in support of the mission that is set for every student’s success.”

LIFT is a community program that facilitates employee volunteer service and emergency assistance through strategic grants and volunteer programs. L3Harris employees see LIFT as an opportunity to make a difference in their community by volunteering where they live and work.

The GISD community has benefited from LIFT several times in the past including last December when L3Harris provided funds to purchase mattresses and stoves for several GISD families in need. We are thankful for our partnership with L3Harris. It is making a huge difference in the lives of our students and families.
