GISD receives 2 ratings from TEA: 98 for financial management and 76 for student achievement

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its annual ratings today, and Greenville ISD received a 98 for its financial management and 76 for student achievement.

In addition, three campuses earned a total of six distinction designations for student achievement:

  • Greenville High School:  Science and English Language Arts and Reading
  • Carver Elementary: Science
  • Katherine G. Johnson STEM Academy: English Language Arts and Reading; Comparative Academic Growth; Comparative Closing Gaps

The TEA did not issue ratings for the 2020-2021 and the 2019-2020 school years because of the disruption caused by the COVID pandemic. For 2018-2019, the district received a rating of 82.

“We attribute the 6-point drop to the significant learning gap our students experienced due to the lengthy disruption in teaching and learning following the onset of the pandemic,” Superintendent Sharon Boothe said. “Last year, we returned to in-person learning, and we focused on social and emotional health, in addition to academics. We expect to continue to close the learning gap this school year. In fact, our principals are presenting their action plans at tomorrow’s school board meeting."

The TEA gave GISD a preliminary rating of 98 for the financial accountability rating system. The annual rating is given by the state's school financial accountability rating system, known as the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The rating system is designed to ensure that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices.

“We are proud of the excellent fiscal stewardship practiced by our Board of Trustees and our Finance Department,” Boothe said. “We have earned top ratings in this area for several years in a row.”
