2022 Lion Pride Band Camp

School may start tomorrow, but the GHS Lion Pride Band has been back since July 25.

Despite the heat, the band hit the parking lot starting at 7 a.m., took a lunch break, and finished by playing inside until 4 p.m.

“My favorite part about band camp was being able to work with awesome people, and grow as a group!” Junior Drumline Captain Savannah Wardlow said.

This year’s show is called “Pathways.” It is based on the concept that our lives may be on different paths, but they may still cross at different times.

GHS Band President and Senior Blake Rutherford says he is looking forward to laying the foundation for the future of the band.

“I’m proud of the students, but I know with some work, we can be even better,” he said.

Incoming band students had the advantage of meeting other students, including upperclassmen, before the first day of school. This makes the transition back into the classroom a little easier.

“Pathways” will be under the direction of returning Senior Drum Major Aaralyn Wright, returning Junior Drum Major Sebastian Gonzales and incoming Senior Drum Major Taylor Valentine.

“I feel this season is going to be great. The music and drill are both really coming together,” Aaralyn said. “I couldn’t be happier to see the show come along.”

You can see the Lion Pride Band perform at halftime during football season. The first game is Aug. 26 at Lake Dallas. The first home game is Sept. 2 vs. Frisco Liberty.
