2023 has started quickly for the Crockett/STEM Rockabots teams, having competed in back-to-back weekends.
The Rockabots first participated in the Jan. 14 Winterbots competition in Garland against 43 other teams.
Team 148 A finished their season strong, just missing the finals of the competition by one place.
Team 148 B continued their finals appearance streak, which dates back to the 2021-22 season.
Team 148 D won the Judges Award to add to the Crockett/STEM trophy case. The team brought home the same award in its last competition.
Team 148 F placed third with a team record skills score, which puts them 19 out of 130 teams in the region. The team just missed qualifying for state by one spot.
On Jan. 21, Team 148 B and Team 148 F competed in Pantego against elementary and middle school teams.
Team 148 B extended their finals appearances yet again. The team accomplished one of its long-term goals and earned the Judges Award.
Team 148 F made the tournament finals but were most proud of the autonomous code score it achieved. The team has been developing its code all season and scored 33 points in its first attempt. The score places them 13 out of 130 regional teams. It also places them in the top 23% of VEX IQ elementary teams in the world. Team 148 F is excited to continue working on the code and see how high it can move up in the rankings.
Coach Susanna Berrones said she could not be prouder of the work of all of the teams this year.
“It has been a fun season and we are sad it is coming to an end,” Berrones said “We have some very determined Rockabot teams wanting to earn a state spot in our last tournaments.”
