On October 28, cadets from the Greenville HS NJROTC participated in the annual Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Americanism Program. This is a program that promotes patriotism, teaches respect for the U.S. flag, and brings attention to Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. This year’s program celebrated the wartime contributions of two honored guests from World War II and the Vietnam War eras, Bill Lilly and J.B. McNatt. Also in attendance at the ceremony was U.S. Representative for Texas’s 3rd Congressional District, Keith Self. Mr. G. Calvin Grogan of the Hunt County Attorney’s Office also provided an update of Veterans Programs to the attendees.

In addition to presenting the colors and providing drill demonstrations, the cadets also compete in an essay contest for the Americanism program. This year, two outstanding essays were selected to be read and the winners were provided with a cash award for their outstanding submissions. The runner up essay was written by Haston Jones and the winning essay was written by Thomas Arnold.
