On 21 Oct 2017, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary held their annual Americanism Program. GHS NJROTC was prominently involved, posting the colors, reciting the Declaration of Independence, and performing a drill exhibition.

The highlight of the event, for the cadets at least, was the announcement of the DAV Americanism Essay Contest winner. The essay topic this year was ‘What Makes America Great”.

Several students from GHS NJROTC submitted entries and all the essays were superb.

Cadet Benjamin Butcher took home the top prize, pocketing the $100 grand prize and his name on a perpetual plaque maintained in the NJROTC classroom at Greenville High School.
