Greenville Teams Shine at Regional Tournament

Greenville’s Destination Imagination teams had an amazing showing at this year’s 2018 East Texas Destination Imagination Regional Tournament. With a total of 7 different challenges all happening in one day, the competition is tough, but Greenville Destination Imagination rose to the occasion. At the tournament, Greenville ISD crowned seven regional champs, allowing these teams to automatically advance to the State Tournament in Mansfield, TX. In total, Greenville took 20 competitive teams and 2 Rising Star Teams (Grades K-2). Fifteen of these teams placed in the top four! Also, Greenville Destination Imagination earned numerous first place medals in Instant Challenges, a quick competition where kids must work together to solve a challenge, by showing their teamwork, time management, and innovation.

State Competition will be held on April 6 and April 7. This tournament includes a total of 500 teams from across the state. Greenville ISD will be sending the following 8 regional champions to represent the district and East Region; 3 Elementary Level teams (one Scientific, one technical and one Engineering), 2 Middle Level teams (one Engineering and one Fine Arts), and 3 Secondary Level teams (one Fine Arts, one Scientific, one Technical). In addition, our Secondary Level teams will be competing in an eXtreme challenge at the high school in hopes to advance to the state competition in another challenge as well as their previous central challenge.

Greenville Destination Imagination would like to thank Greenville ISD and all of our teachers and community volunteers who allow this program to work so successfully throughout the “DI Season.” Each team that is advancing to state is working diligently in hopes to successfully represent Greenville in Knoxville, TN at the Global Finals Tournament.
