Here are the highlights from the April 21, 2020 School Board meeting:

 

Invocation:

  • Pastor Chris Yost of Wesley United Methodist Church opened the meeting with prayer.

Recognition:

  • 2nd Nine Weeks Super Teachers
  • GISD Special Olympics Logo Winner - GHS Art Student- Alejandra Rodriguez 
  • March Hero of Hope Marla Woods

Open Forum: There were no public comments.

 

Comments from Individual Board Members:

  • Trustee Anne Haynes thanked her fellow trustees for their condolences following the death of her mother.
  • President John Kelso discussed several helpful webinars he has attended. He will share links with the rest of the board.

Superintendent's Report:

  • The Superintendent gave a district news update.

Human Resources:

  • Discussion regarding changing third party administrators from First Financial to FBMC Benefits Management
  • Recruiting during COVID-19 Pandemic: Human Resources is taking an innovative approach to recruitment this year with an emphasis on redesigning the Career page on the website and participating in a number of virtual job fairs and teacher interview days. GISD will host its own virtual job fair on May 5, 2020. 

Finance:

  • SAMCO Capital provided an update on the municipal bond market.

  • The board voted to award Sodexo with the contract for GISD's child nutrition program.
  • The board voted to award SSC Services with the contract for GISD's custodial services.
