Here are the highlights from the December 15, 2020, School Board meeting:

  • The meeting opened with the call to order, invocation by Dr. Greg Anderson and pledge of allegiance lead by Katrina Row's first-grade class from Bowie Elementary.

Recognition

  • Recognition of Greenville ISD Christmas Card Artist - Lamar 5th grader MacKenzie Cardwell
  • Recognition of the 2020 GHS Varsity Volleyball Team - 2020 Area Champs
  • Recognition of GISD’s December Hero of Hope – Communities in School Social Worker Whitney Threatt

Reports/Discussion Items

  • The Superintendent gave a district news update.
  • Report on district operations during COVID-19 pandemic 
  • Report on GISD Coronavirus Rapid Testing System - Noel Bares explained the new COVID-19 testing for staff being offered through the district.
  • Report on Teacher and School Leader Grant - Sharon Boothe gave a report on this grant.  The district is one of only 13 schools across the United States that has received this grant. The grant project is called IGNITE. 
  • Review and discuss school board 2021 annual agenda calendar
  • Review and discuss update to Board of Trustees goals

Action/Discussion Items 

  • Approve the selection of the most highly qualified professional service providers in response to Request for Qualifications #21-0001 for Geotechnical Engineering Services, Construction Materials Testing, and Environmental Assessments and authorization for the Superintendent or designee to negotiate and execute a contract for professional services.
  • Approve the selection of the most highly qualified professional service providers in response to Request for Qualifications # 21-0002 for Civil Engineering Services, Surveying, SUE Surveys, and Landscape Architecture Services and authorization for the Superintendent or designee to negotiate and execute a contract for professional services.
  • Consideration of First Reading and adoption of policy BE (Local)
  • Consider possibly amending the COVID-19 Safety Response Levels - tabled until February
  • Approved the Annual Investment Report and District Investment Policy
  • Approved the budget amendment to transfer funds for employee incentive
  • Approved the purchase of over $50,000 - Communities in Schools

Open forum for non-agenda items: Board member Tish Woodruff asked about having the city repair the road at Templeton and Texas Streets by Greenville Middle School.

Board member Roger Livingston asked how the new roof at Greenville High School is doing.  

Board member Tish Woodruff asked about the progress of getting the roof replaced at LPW.
