Fashion Design Students

Greenville High School will turn up the volume on creativity this Friday, February 27, as students take the runway for the annual Fashion Design Show at 6:00 p.m. inside the Greenville High School CTE Building.

This year’s theme, Music, challenges students to transform some of the most iconic looks in entertainment into runway-ready recreations designed and constructed entirely by hand.

At the start of the school year, students in the Fashion Design program were placed into teams and tasked with selecting a musical artist. Each group then chose a specific outfit worn by that artist, whether from a concert stage, an awards show appearance, or an album cover moment. From there, the real work began.

Since August, students have sketched concepts, selected fabrics, drafted patterns, sewn garments, made alterations, and refined every detail. The result is a showcase that represents months of technical skill development, collaboration, and creative problem solving.

This year’s show will feature 34 student groups, doubling in size from last year’s 17 and highlighting the rapid growth of the program. Attendees will see student creations inspired by artists such as Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Madonna, SZA, and many more familiar names across multiple genres.

For Fashion Design Instructor Ms. Janda Hawthorne, the most rewarding part of the show is watching students grow in both confidence and creativity.

“Seeing the students grow with their designs and creativity from year to year has been incredible,” Hawthorne said. “We have gone from 17 groups last year to 34 groups this year. The level of detail, teamwork, and originality continues to improve, and it is exciting to see how much pride they take in their work.”

Greenville High School offers a dedicated Fashion Design pathway that includes Fashion Design I, Fashion Design II, and a Fashion Design Practicum, providing students with hands-on experience and the opportunity to explore future careers in the fashion industry.

Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. All proceeds will directly benefit the Fashion Design program.

The community is invited to attend and experience an evening where music, design, and student talent come together in a celebration of creativity and growth.
