Welcome Coach Castillo

At a called board meeting on Thursday, March 5, the Greenville ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Christopher Castillo as the district’s new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.

Castillo brings more than two decades of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, along with a proven record of building successful programs and developing student-athletes on and off the field.

Most recently serving as Defensive Coordinator at Somerset High School, Castillo helped transform the football program to a 42–17 record over five seasons, leading the team to four consecutive playoff appearances and earning three Bi-District Championships and an Area Championship. Prior to Somerset, he helped revitalize Mission High School’s football program, guiding the team to three straight playoff appearances, a District Championship, and its first playoff victory in six years.

In addition to football success, Castillo has led highly successful boys and girls powerlifting programs, significantly expanding student participation and helping develop dozens of regional qualifiers, multiple state qualifiers, and several state champions. Throughout his career, he has focused on building programs that emphasize discipline, teamwork, leadership, and academic achievement while creating opportunities for all student-athletes to thrive.

As an athletic leader, Castillo brings experience in program development, staff mentorship, UIL compliance, and community engagement, with a vision of building a vertically aligned athletic program that supports student success, strengthens school pride, and promotes excellence across all sports.

Coach Castillo holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, California, and holds Texas educator certifications from the Texas Education Agency in Social Studies (Grades 8–12) and Physical Education (Grades K–12).

Castillo is married to his wife, Leora, and together they have three children: Carleigh (21), Nora (16), and Myles (13).

“I am truly honored and incredibly excited to serve as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Greenville ISD. I look forward to investing in our student-athletes, helping them grow on and off the field, and becoming an active part of the Greenville community. Together, we will build something great for our students and our community,” said Castillo.

Greenville ISD looks forward to welcoming Coach Castillo and the leadership he will bring to Lion Athletics.
