Greenville ISD Special Olympians delivered an outstanding performance at the Terrell Special Olympics Track and Field Meet on April 10, earning more than 35 medals and representing their district with pride.
More than 16 Greenville ISD Special Olympics athletes competed in a full day of events, showcasing their abilities across both track and field competitions. Students participated in running events along with field events including shot put, javelin, tennis ball throw, and softball throw, earning top finishes throughout the meet.
This event is one of many that are provided as an opportunity for students to demonstrate not only their athletic skills, but also their determination, growth, and confidence built through their participation in the program. Each event reflects the time, effort, and preparation students have put in throughout the year.
Courtney Baker, Director of Special Education, said she was proud of the way students competed and represented Greenville ISD.
“Our students continue to impress us with their athletic abilities, but more importantly, with how they carry themselves,” Baker said. “They represent Greenville ISD in such a positive way, and we are incredibly proud of their effort, their growth, and the way they support one another.”
The success at Terrell highlights the continued impact of Greenville ISD’s Special Olympics program, which focuses on creating opportunities for students of all abilities to compete, grow, and be celebrated.
That celebration will continue as Greenville ISD prepares to host its own Special Olympics Track and Field event on May 7 at T.A. Cotton Ford Stadium. The event will welcome families, staff, and community members to support student-athletes and experience the program firsthand.
Baker said the upcoming meet is an opportunity to bring the community together while highlighting the achievements of Greenville ISD students.
“We’re excited to welcome our families and community out to our home event,” Baker said. “It’s a chance to celebrate our students and everything they’ve accomplished, and we look forward to sharing that experience with everyone.”
As Greenville ISD continues to prioritize opportunities for every student, events like these reflect the district’s commitment to growth, inclusion, and creating meaningful experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
