Greenville High School's Lineman Challenge team is headed to state after earning a second-place overall finish at regional competition, securing a spot in the State Lineman Challenge on June 20 at Hardin-Simmons University.

Competing against approximately 20 teams, the Lions demonstrated strength, endurance, and teamwork throughout a series of demanding events, including tire flips, farmer's carry, power push, bench press, obstacle course challenges, and tug of war.

According to Greenville ISD Athletic Director Chris Castillo, Greenville's linemen delivered a steady performance throughout the competition and entered the final tug of war event sitting in third place overall.

"Our linemen had a very consistent showing throughout the day and competed well in every event," Castillo said. "They entered the final tug of war competition sitting in third place, and their performance there was outstanding. The group came together, won the tug of war, and that result propelled us to a second-place overall finish."

The victory in the final event secured Greenville's qualification for the State Lineman Challenge, where the team will compete against some of the top linemen from across Texas.

While each event tested the athletes' strength and conditioning, the competition also required teamwork, communication, and perseverance. Those qualities helped the Lions overcome challenges throughout the day and finish among the top teams in the field.

"We're proud of the group's effort, toughness, and teamwork and are looking forward to representing our program at the state level," Castillo said.

The state competition will take place June 20 at Hardin-Simmons University, where Greenville's linemen will have the opportunity to showcase their hard work and represent Lion Nation on the state stage.
