More than 40 first responders and public safety professionals participated each day in a week-long school safety training exercise hosted by Greenville ISD at Lamar Elementary, bringing together multiple agencies to strengthen coordination and emergency response procedures.
The joint training included personnel from the Greenville ISD Police Department, Greenville Police Department, Greenville Fire Department, and AMR Ambulance Services. Throughout the week, participants worked through realistic emergency scenarios designed to test communication, coordination, and response efforts from the initial notification of an incident through the conclusion of the exercise.
The hands-on training allowed participants to work through realistic emergency scenarios while utilizing emergency management tools and procedures, including accountability systems, victim tracking processes, and coordinated response protocols.
Throughout the week, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel trained side-by-side, giving each agency the opportunity to strengthen communication, build relationships, and gain valuable experience working together before an emergency ever occurs.
Greenville ISD Police Lieutenant Nathan Baker said one of the greatest benefits of the training was the opportunity for agencies to learn from one another while operating as a unified team.
"You can train separately all day long, but there's something different about training together," Baker said. "When everyone is in the same room working through the same situations, it helps build trust and confidence. We learn how each agency operates, how we communicate with one another, and how we work together to keep people safe."
The training reflects Greenville ISD's ongoing commitment to maintaining safe and secure learning environments across the district. School safety remains a top priority, and exercises like this allow the district and its community partners to continually evaluate procedures, strengthen partnerships, and ensure they are prepared to respond when needed.
Greenville ISD extends its appreciation to the Greenville Police Department, Greenville Fire Department, AMR Ambulance Services, and Greenville ISD Police Department personnel who dedicated their time throughout the week to participate in the training.
By investing in proactive training opportunities and strong partnerships, Greenville ISD continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the entire school community.
