Teachers of the Year Recognized

The 2012-2013 Greenville ISD Teachers of the Year were recognized at the August 20th Board Meeting.

 

Ten Greenville ISD teachers were voted by their peers astop teachers and received the designation of Greenville ISD Teacher of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year. Elementary teachers honored were Deborah Sikes (Bowie), Susana Gomez (Carver), Farzana Islam (L.P. Waters), Shanna Jennings (Crockett), Cathy Garner (Travis) and Samantha Phillips (Lamar Elementary). Secondary teachers honored were Wendy Hare (Greenville Sixth Grade Center), Linda Muhl (Greenville Middle School), Stephani Olenski (Greenville HighSchool) and Beth McKinney (Houston Education Center).

 

The campus teachers of the year then competed for the prestigious District Teacher of the Year designation. The group of ten teachers completed essay questions that were reviewed by a panel of administrators. Deborah Sikes from Bowie Elementary was named District Elementary Teacher ofthe Year and Linda Muhl from Greenville Middle School was named District Secondary Teacher of the Year.

 

Ms. Sikes and Ms. Muhl represented Greenville ISD at theTeacher of the Year luncheon on August 13th held at the Granville Arts Center. The Texas Teachers of the Year serve as traveling ambassadors for public education as they speak for, motivate, and exemplify the contributions of the teaching profession. The state program is affiliated with the National Teacher of the Year Program, the oldest and most prestigious awards program to focus public attention on excellence in teaching.
