OFYP Eligibility Requirements

Optional Flexible Year Program Summary

Greenville ISD is offering eight Optional Flexible Year Program (OFYP) days at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. The goal of the OFYP is to help teachers and staff provide small group, intensive and prescriptive instructional services for those students not meeting the OFYP eligibility criteria.

May 18th will be the last regular day of instruction for students who meet the set of OFYP eligibility requirements. Students not meeting the set of eligibility requirements will be privy to the small group sessions being held during the OFYP days.

OFYP days will begin on Tuesday, May 22nd and end on Friday, June 1st with Monday, May 28th being a holiday in observance of Memorial Day.

Eligibility requirements for GISD students are as follows:

Pre-Kindergarten: All pre-kindergarten students will attend school for 180 instructional days and are not eligible to participate in the OFYP. The last day of instruction for all Pre-K students is June 1st.

Kindergarten – 3: Students must meet the state’s 90% attendance requirement and meet all promotional standards to the next grade level. The last day of instruction for K-2 students meeting these two requirements is May 18th.

Grades 4 – 8: Students must meet the state’s 90% attendance requirement and meet all promotional standards to the next grade level. Students must also have earned the “Met Standard” on all 2010-2011 TAKS tests and achieved the passing standards on all 2011-2012 STAAR tests. If applicable, GAEP placement will be reviewed by principal. The last day of instruction for Grades 4 – 8 students meeting the aforementioned requirements is May 18th.

Grade 9: Students must meet the state’s 90% attendance requirement and meet all promotional standards to the next grade level. Students must also have earned the “Met Standard” on all 2010-2011 TAKS tests and achieved the passing standards on all End of Course (EoC) exams. If applicable, GAEP placement will be reviewed by principal. The last day of instruction for Grade 9 students meeting the aforementioned requirements is May 18th.

Grades 10 – 12: Students must meet the state’s 90% attendance requirement and meet all promotional standards to the next grade level. Students must also have earned the “Met Standard” on all 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 TAKS tests. If applicable, GAEP placement will be reviewed by principal. The last day of instruction for Grades 10 – 12 students meeting the aforementioned requirements is May 18th.

There are two provisions to the eligibility requirements allowing students to gain eligibility during the OFYP days. First, if students do not meet the eligibility requirements due to their attendance rate falling below the 90% requirement, students may attend OFYP days until they meet the 90% requirement. For instance, if a student needs two more instructional days to meet the percentage requirement, they would attend the OFYP days on May 22nd and May 23rd and then would be eligible for dismissal. Second, if students do not meet the eligibility requirements due to not meeting the “Met Standard” on the 2010-2011 TAKS tests, they can regain qualification if they score 70% or above on all End of Course/STAAR tests. The district will determine eligibility statuses when results are received.

Should your child meet the set of eligibility requirements, but your preference is for them to continue to attend school during the OFYP days, enrichment activities and supervision will be available.

Individual letters will be mailed to each student’s home indicating their eligibility status. Should you have any questions about your individual child’s status, please contact your campus principal.

The Texas ACE Grant and Program will continue during the OFYP days (May 22-June 1) and will offered during the month of June. For additional information on the ACE Grant, please contact Johanna Friedel at friedelj@greenvilleisd.com.
