Dr. Joe Lopez

The Greenville Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dr. Joe Lopez as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.

The board unanimously voted, 7-0, during the Tuesday, March 5 called meeting to approve Dr. Lopez. Currently serving as the Superintendent of Kermit ISD, Dr. Lopez has over two decades of educational leadership experience, including 9 years of superintendency.

After a comprehensive search process that included input from stakeholders across the district, the Board of Trustees is confident that Dr. Lopez's experience and leadership qualities make him the ideal candidate to lead Greenville ISD into its next chapter of excellence.

Dr. Lopez has established himself as an exceptional leader in public education through his extensive background and demonstrated commitment to student success. In 2023, he was recognized among the Top 5 Finalists for Superintendent of the Year across Texas, underscoring his reputation as a visionary educator with a passion for innovation and a collaborative approach to leadership.

The Board of Trustees will now enter a 21-day waiting period, after which Dr. Lopez is expected to be officially appointed as the new Superintendent of Schools for Greenville ISD.
