GMS & SGC VEX IQ Robotics Bring Home Wins at Tournament

GMS Protobots at Tournament On Nov. 11, the Katherine G. Johnson STEM Academy Robotics Team, the Rock-A-Bots, Sixth Grade Center Robotics Team, the Cyborgs and the Middle School VEX IQ Robotics Team, the Protobots entered eleven teams in the Rochell Rangers VEX IQ Ringmaster Tournament at Rockwall Heath High School. Fifty-one teams entered this tournament.

The GMS Protobots 5148F made up Stephen Baird, Evan Bennett, Trevor Yosten and Nasario Munoz completed the qualification rounds in 8th place. They joined Team 20616A, The Robolution from Dallas in the playoffs. The finished as Tournament Champions.

Due to their victory, Team 5148F has qualified for the North Texas VEX IQ “Ringmaster” Regional Middle School Championship in Greenville on Saturday March 03, 2018. They have also qualified for the CREATE U. S. Open VEX IQ Robotics Championship – Middle School Division in Council Bluffs, IA, Monday, April 02, 2018 through Wednesday April 04, 2018.

GMS Protobots 5148C whose members are Jared Rice and Aiden Schafft finished the qualification rounds in first place. They joined Team 7522A, the Robo Panthers from Dallas in the playoffs to finish the tournament in fifth place. They also were in fifth place in the Robot Skills Challenge.

SGC Cyborgs 3148P consisting of Joseph Zurita, Grant Spencer and Dillon Bobbitt finished the qualification rounds in eleventh place. They joined Team 1701B from Rockwall in the playoffs to finish the tournament in sixth place.

6th Grade Cyborgs at Robotics Tournament SGC Cyborgs 3148G consisting of Charlie Pruitt, Isabella Freeman and Bethany Speyrer earned the Energy Award. The Energy Award is given to a team that demonstrates extraordinary enthusiasm.

The K. G. Johnson STEM Academy Rock-A-Bots, Sixth Grade Center Cyborgs and Middle School Protobots next compete in the Harmony Science Academy VEX IQ Tournament in Garland on Saturday, December 2nd.
