Vex Robotics team shines in 1/27 tournament

On Saturday January 27th, Greenville High School VEX Robotics Team, the Iron Cowboys entered three teams in the Cumby “In the Zone Tournament” at Cumby High School.

  • The Iron Cowboys 4148A made up of Austin Burns, Daniel Ugalde, Trenton Burns, Luis Ugalde and Charlie Murfin completed the qualification rounds in 1st They selected their partner Team 4148E consisting of Madison Hibdon, Joshua Ross, Elijah Wofford, and Tyler Seale, the Iron Cowboys from GHS and Team 75160X, Tiger Nation from Terrell High School to form the number one alliance. They went undefeated in the elimination rounds to become the Tournament Champion.
    • Team 4148A was also the Robot Skills Champions.
    • Team 4148E finished the qualification rounds undefeated in second place and in second place in the Robot Skills Challenge.
  • Team 4148D whose members are Jacob Linden, Samuel Martin, David Voss, Brandon Moore, Landon Fry-Rowland, and Jovani Rodriguez finished the qualification rounds in fifth place. They joined Team 24365A, Knights Robotics from Point and 7746A, Code Breakers from New Diana High School to form the number two alliance. They were eliminated in the semi-finals.
  • Team 4148D also won the Excellence Award. The Excellence Award is the highest award presented in the VEX Robotics Competition. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX robotics program. They also won the Judges Award which is given to a team the Judges decide is deserving of special recognition.
  • Team 4148B consisting of Josue Adame and Sachit Chaulagain finished the qualification rounds in fourth place. They joined Team 9950A, Small Town Spartans from New Dian High School and 9394A, Team Overdrive from New Diana High School to form the number 3 alliance. They were eliminated in the finals and, therefore; finished the tournament in second place.
    • Team 4148B also earned third place in the Robot Skills Challenge.

The Iron Cowboys next compete in the Community VEX “In the Zone” Tournament in Nevada on Saturday, February 3rd.
