HUGE Milestone for GHS Concert Bands

This past week was a HUGE milestone for the Greenville High School concert bands...yes, band(S). For the first time in almost 20 years, GHS took BOTH a Symphonic Band and a Wind Ensemble to UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. The competition was held this past Wednesday and Thursday at Canton High School.

On Wednesday, our new Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Richard Burt went to competition. They performed Generosity March, In a Quiet Place, and Crest of Nobility. The students earned a 1st division (SUPERIOR) rating for their concert performance AND their Sight Reading.

On Thursday, the newly formed Wind Ensemble competed. They performed Brighton Beach March, Salvation is Created, and Imaginarium. Students in our Varsity Band earned straight 1st division (SUPERIOR) ratings in BOTH concert and sight reading.

'To have both ensembles do so well is a true testament to our hard-working students. In addition, we had many parents and Dr. Liggins at the competitions BOTH days. It is a true pleasure to know that our parents and administration value the Fine Arts and continues to support the instrumental ensembles in such an outstanding way! A heart-felt CONGRATULATIONS go out to all our talented band students for a job WELL DONE!!!
