GHS Varsity Tennis team place in two tournaments

Great week to be a LION!  Greenville High School varsity tennis competed in two tournaments this weekend.  Friday, March 2nd, they played in Red Oak High School's Tournament and faced players from Grand Prairie, Argyle, Red Oak, Garland High, Garland Sasche, Waxahachie, Arlington, North Forney and DeSoto.  Katie Shaw placed 3rd in girls singles and Ryan Bakkum won consolation honors in boys singles.  Boys Doubles team Chandler Cox and Austin Sanders placed 4th.  It was a great tournament and good competition.

 

Then headed to Nacogdoches to compete in Hudson High School's Annual Tournament and competed with players from Woodville, Woden, Hudson, Central Heights, Mt. Pleasant, Pinewood Academy, Center, Palestine, Henderson, Huntington, Carthage, Grapeland.  Katie Shaw won 1st place in girls singles; Jewelly Roberson won girls singles consolation honors.  Ryan Bakkum won boys singles consolation honors in boys B Division.  Boys Doubles Cox/Sanders won 2nd place in the A Division and Xachary Aguilar and Nick Ruprecht won 2nd in boys B Division doubles.  Girls Doubles B Division also had Greenville winners Hannah Mulder and Emmilei Thomas with consolation honors!

 

Coach Mary Mulkey says, "Our team has picked up the pace and competing well with 5A and 6A schools.  We have a few more spring duals and one more tournament before district.  We are competing really well...hoping to have some district titles again this year and regional qualifiers!  We have our focus on our goal.  I am super proud of each and everyone of our players."
