Mr. Burt has been a part of GISD for 16 years. He began his career as the band director for sixth grade at Greenville Intermediate (now Sixth Grade Center). From 2007 to 2018, Mr. Burt served as assistant band director at Greenville High School. In the fall of 2018, he became an assistant principal at KGJ STEM @ Crockett.

Mr. Burt is excited about the opportunity to return to the high school and teach music.

“I am excited to return home to the place I began my teaching journey, and I look forward to empowering students to reach their goals through the love of music,” Mr. Burt said. “I am looking forward to being a part of the ‘Pride’ of Greenville again. Go Lion Pride Band!”

Chief Human Resources Officer Heath Jarvis said the Greenville community will be in for a treat when they listen to the band directed by Mr. Burt.

“Mr. Burt has always been very popular and respected by his students when he was our assistant band director a few years ago. He is an amazing leader, and he will be able to continue the success that our talented Lion Pride Band has had over the past several years,” Mr. Jarvis said. “We are very lucky to have him back in our band program. It will be a lot fun to watch the band perform this upcoming school year.”

Mr. Burt earned a bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M-Commerce.

He and his wife Nikki, a former Lion Pride Band Drum Major, have four children.
