Greenville High School senior Micah Simpson earned this week’s Built Ford Tough 5A Football Player of the Week! 

In last week's 42-31 win over Frisco Liberty, Simpson carried 34 times for 444 yards and six touchdowns to go along with three tackles and an interception on defense.  Simpson’s big game helped the Lions bounce back from a season-opening loss and head into this week’s game with a 1-1 record.  

“It was me just trying to make a play for my team. Every play," Simpson said during an interview with Herald-Banner Sports Editor David Claybourn.

Greenville ISD Athletic Director and Head Coach Darren Duke said Simpson's versatility and athleticism came together during the game. 

"He’s a good kid, a good student and a multiple-sport athlete (track and basketball). He’s got a good feel for the game," Duke said. "We had a lot of starters out, and he just took over.”
