Robowranglers begin competition season with a strong start

team Robot

The GHS Robowranglers competed in their first tournament of the year this past weekend at the Fort Worth First in Texas District Event. After 68 very competitive qualification matches team 148 finished fifth overall. During the alliance process they chose two rookie teams to partner with which proved to be a great strategic move. During the new double elimination format the team won their first elimination match then faced off against the number one seed and powerhouse 3005 Robochargers out of Dallas and last year’s world champion Fusion Corp 6672 from Irving. The first seed would get the win, but 148 climbed their way out of the lower bracket defeating three other alliances to face off against the number one seed once again in the finals.

In finals match one, the 148 alliance won in a fast paced back and back game with a score of 149 - 140. In match two, the first seed fought back and took the win 150-96 setting up a nail-biting third and deciding finals match. In another exciting fast paced game, the first seed managed to secure the victory 176-152.

Robowranglers coach Corey Bankston shared that after a weekend and season full of challenges, finishing as tournament finalists is still a huge victory for the team.

“The students of 148 continue to prove why Greenville Robotics is considered to be one of the best programs in the world.” Bankston said. “We are all very proud of these kids who have dedicated so much of their lives to ensure that the legacy of 148 remains strong and proud.”

We would like to thank our mentors and sponsors for their continued support. These amazing people give their time, knowledge and energy to teach our kids real world engineering and how to work and communicate as a team. Thank you to the Greenville community, parents and GHS staff members who provide meals, transportation, a positive voice in the stands and showing our kids love and support. Our motto of Have Fun, Make Friends and Chase Excellence is alive and well.

The teams next stop is Amarillo in two weeks.
