Local family donates backpacks to celebrate birthday

What do you buy for a man on his birthday when he says he doesn’t want anything? That’s the question Morgan Jones recently asked herself when Cliff, her father, had an upcoming birthday.

“He’s the hardest person to shop for,” said Brooke Jones, Cliff’s wife. “He always says he doesn’t want anything.” Cliff himself joked that Morgan and Brooke expect him to keep a wishlist on hand of things to ask for each year.

In all seriousness, the Jones family wanted to give back to the community they call home.

Instead of purchasing gifts for Cliff this year, Morgan decided to use those funds to give back to Greenville ISD students in honor of her father’s birthday. To determine the areas of highest need for the district, Morgan reached out to Parent Involvement Facilitator Whitney Threatt who knew exactly how the Jones family could help: clear backpacks for families who are unable to afford them.

Greenville ISD recently announced that clear backpacks would be required for all students in the upcoming school year. This policy along with several other measures are being taken to increase student and staff safety on every campus. More information about GISD’s safety measures can be found here

The Jones family donation will help ensure that 35 students are set up for success in the fall. The donated clear backpacks range in size to fit the needs of all GISD students, from Pre-K to grade 12. The donation will help reach our goal of providing free clear backpacks to families in need who request assistance through this link
