April 19, 2022
Here are the highlights from the April 19, 2022, School Board meeting:
- The meeting opened with the call to order at 5:30 p.m. with a quorum present. The invocation was led by Pastor John Kay of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and presentation of colors by the GHS NJROTC.
Recognition
- Recognition of Greenville Middle School teacher Mary Miller, whose class won the Texas State Championship in this year's "Read With Malcolm; READBowl." ACE Site Coordinator Steve Urban partnered with Mrs. Miller and her students.
- Recognition of GHS State Qualifiers for Powerlifting
- Recognition of GHS varsity Lions soccer team who made it to the first round of the playoffs.
- Recogntion of Rally Round Reading top readers for the spring reading challenge 2022. The top readers from each elementary campus and L.P. Waters received a kite, certificate and yard sign.
- GISD honored the Air Force Local Chapter 416 as its Impactful Partner for April.
- Recognition of the April 2022 Hero of Hope GHS Teacher Kristi Thompson
- L.P. Waters Principal Melissa Yost presented the March Campus Spotlight.
Open Forum and Public Comment for Agenda Items & Non-Agenda Items
- Colleen McDonald spoke regarding the Teacher Incentive Allotment and encouraged GISD to apply for the allotment.
Comments from Individual Board Members
- Trustee Bonnie-Jean Stewart congratulated all the students and staff who were recognized this evening. She also expressed appreciation to the business owners who are displaying student artwork in Art Around Town.
- Roger described what a joy it is for him to go to L.P. Waters and interact with the students.
Reports/Discussion Items
- Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Boothe highlighted open houses and campus gatherings across the district.
- Demographer Trent Smith presented a demographic study.
- Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance Sherry Dodson presented the first reading of the 2022-23 budget.
- Interim Chief of Teaching and Learning Dr. Laurie Hitzelberger presented summative data for the third reporting period.
- GISD School Board President Trena Stafford reported on School Board members' continuing education. All trustees exceeded their professional training requirements.

- Submission of application for Head Start for the 2022-23 school year
- Hunt County Head Start Self-Assessment for the 2021-22 school year.
