Here are the highlights from the Oct. 18, 2022 School Board meeting:

The meeting opened with a call to order by President Aletha Kruse at 5:30 p.m. with a quorum present.

Ridgecrest Baptist Church Youth Pastor Ryan Litchfield delivered the invocation, the GHS NJROTC presented the colors, and President Kruse led the pledge of allegiance.

Reading of Vision Statement

• Greenville High School junior Brylon Hill read the GISD Vision Statement and described his experience as a student in GISD.

Design Update

• Corgan Architect Vice President Lance Melton presented a report on the designs and traffic patterns for proposed new campuses for Greenville Middle School and L.P. Waters Early Childhood Center. 

Recognition

• Deputy Superintendent of Administration Wes Underwood recognized GISD's principals.
• GHS Student Engagement Officer N.J. Mason was recognized as the October Hero of Hope.

• There were no public comments.

Comments from Individual Board Members

• Trustee Bonnie-Jean Stewart expressed her appreciation for GISD's principals for their hard work and dedication.
• Board President Aletha Kruse discussed the audit for the 2021-22 school year. The audit is set to be presented to the board at the Nov. 15 School Board meeting. If the audit is finished before then, the audit will be presented at a called board meeting.

• Superintendent Sharon Boothe presented the Superintendent's Report, which highlights news from around the district.
• Trustees described the learning sessions they attended during the recent TASA/TASB conference.

Action and Discussion Items

• L.P. Waters Principal and Hunt County Head Start Director Melissa Yost presented the 2021-22 Hunt County Head Start annual report.
• The Board approved changes to pay grades and a stipend for special education staff.
