Here are the highlights from the Feb. 21, 2023 School Board meeting:
The meeting opened with a call to order by President Aletha Kruse at 5:30 p.m. with a quorum present. The GHS NJROTC presented the colors.
Wesley United Methodist Church Pastor Chris Yost delivered the invocation.
Reading of Vision Statement
- An ECHS student Ian Kowalczyk read the vision statement and shared goals for the future.
Recognition
- Impactful Partner:
- Kona Ice Owners Greg and Lee Anne Hammond were honored for their support for GISD over many years.
- The February Hero of Hope, Tina Clark, was honored.

- Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Sharon Boothe gave highlights of news and events from around the district.
- Child Nutrition: Potential uses for the allocation of cafeteria funds were reported. The board approved a $2.00 per hour raise for child nutrition personnel.
- Technology: The Board considered allowing outdated technology equipment to be approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Technology to be recycled and resold for the remainder of the 22-23 school year.
- Teaching and Learning:
- Future pathways in Medical Tech (EMT) and Certified Nurse Aid (CNA).
- Teacher Incentive Allotment Grant; the board approved to authorize the Superintendent to submit the Teacher Incentive Allotment Grant on behalf of GISD.
